Tata DOCOMO slashes 2G and 3G data browsing prices by 90%

With the changing dynamics in the market and the primary objective of increasing the data penetration amongst customers, Tata DOCOMO, the unified telecom brand of Tata Teleservices on Tuesday slashes its 2G and 3G data volume based charging (VBC) tariffs by 90 percent.

With this Tata Docomo becomes the fourth company after Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea to reduce the 2G data rates in the past one week.

Gurinder Singh Sandhu, Head Marketing, Tata DOCOMO.said that the move is driven bymobile internet adoption and usage acceleration. The reduced rates will be applicable from July1 for its existing as well as new prepay GSM customers across the country

The revised tariffs will be applicable on 2G data packs, RC 126 (2GB for 30 days), RC 149 (2.5GB for 30 days) and RC 249 (3GB for 60 days) and 3G data pack, RC 255 (2GB for 30 days) and other circle specific packs in the similar segment. Once customers exhaust their free 2G or 3G data quantum, they can continue to access high speed mobile internet by paying only 1 paise per 10 kb instead of the earlier 10 paise per 10 kb data; thereby enjoying a 90 percent discount. This proposition will be applicable even while customers are roaming on Tata DOCOMO GSM network nationally.

Earlier, Vodafone and Airtel went for a whopping reduction in the 2G data charges by 80% and 90% respectively. Following the suit Idea lowered the 2G data tariff by 90% in 8 circles.

Bharti Airtel lowered its data usage charges in Punjab and Haryana while Idea slashed rates in Tamil Nadu & Chennai, Karnataka, Kolkata, West Bengal, Assam, North East, Bihar, and Orissa. Its prepaid and postpaid subscribers can use data at just 2 paise/10 KB from July 1.

Vodafone India has chosen to lower 2G data rates in Karnataka, UP West and MPCG and will be rolled out nationally in phased manner.

Bharti Airtel also slashed 4G data charges by 31 percent to expand its fourth-generation wireless broadband services in Bangalore, Kolkata, Pune and Chandigarh.
