About 3,600 units of Apple iPad mini worth $1.5 million have been stolen from the JFK airport, New York. As per the security deployed at the airport, two people managed to enter the airport vicinity without being detected which hints that some insider was involved in this major theft.

“Two people managed to enter the airport territory driving a truck and used one of the airport’s own forklifts to load two pallets of the tablet computers into their vehicle,” reports IANS. Both the thieves decided to leave back other three pallets when the airport worker interrogated their actions. The incident took place on late Monday night and entire staff is being questioned as police suspects an insider to be involved.

The iPads had just arrived from China after the assembling and were supposed to be made available for the US market. This was supposed to Apple’s first shipment to LTE and this incident will disappoint a lot of Apple fans. The Droid Guy reports, “The stolen units may have gotten far from Apple’s grasp but it surely couldn’t leave the US without being detected. Thus, the crooks, if they will be not be caught after several days, may still have difficult times selling those units in bulk.”

Investigation is still on and the authorities are looking in depth of the matter. The airport staff is being questioned which might give a hint to those stolen iPads.
