Samsung had announced back in March that the first device to run its Tizen OS would be released in Q3, 2013. Just yesterday it was reported that Samsung had actually delayed this device, pushing it back by as much as two months. Rumor has it that the first Tizen device will be released in October. The reason for this delay wasn’t related to hardware, rather Samsung was said to be experiencing issues in developing the app store for Tizen. Eldar Murtazin, a Russian who is deemed to be pretty well connected in the mobile industry, has refuted rumors that Tizen has been delayed. He says that its “almost dead.”
Murtazin believes that this delay is actually the cancellation of this entire project. Its implied that perhaps Samsung will amalgamate some of Tizen’s features in to the existing Android OS that it uses, a skin of some sort like TouchWiz. He also believes that Samsung will not launch more than one such device next year. Murtazin says that the project is going to be “Intel connected” and it will be based on Android. No further details are available at the moment.:
