The App which is named Railway Mobile Instant Tracking Response and Assistance (R-MITRA), works both online and offline in SMS mode by using the helpline number 56161.
The basic functionality of R-Mitra is to alert the nearest RPF inspector and divisional security control room in case of any emergency with the press of a button only.Once the button on the app is pressed, the physical location of the victim will be sent to the control room with the help of GPS and GPRS and the control room will track the user and ensure action immediately. The security and safety measure, App is being developed in coordination with Railway Protection Force and designed in-house by the Eastern Railway (ER).
This useful app could be used by regional railways nation-wide and which surely tends to the increase of the number of passengers of railways.
